The Heritage High School boys tennis team continued its success Friday, capping off an impressive season by defeating Rosemead High 11-7 to win the CIF Southern Section Division 5 championship in Claremont.
The Patriots' No. 2 singles player, Adrian Castle, swept his three matches, winning by scores of 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Justin Kushner and Jack Bowler also swept their matches, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
In addition, No. 1 singles player Andrew Johnson won two of three sets. So did the No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Baca and Logan Dreese.
Thirteen of the team's 15 players are seniors, including eight of the starting nine. As juniors, they lost a close match in the CIF finals last year. This season, the Patriots finished with a 22-2 record, including their third straight Sunbelt League championship.
In the last four years under coach Doug Fairchild, the Patriots are 72-17 overall and their Sunbelt League record is 38-2.
