Menifee City officials Wednesday night honored outgoing Fire Department Battalion Chief Jorge Rodriguez, who has served the city in that capacity since 2009.
Rodriguez has been promoted to assistant chief of the Riverside County Fire Department. He will oversee operations in the east Coachella Valley.
"Jorge has been a timber of leadership in Menifee," Mayor Scott Mann said in presenting Rodriguez with a plaque at the start of the Menifee City Council meeting. "He has been an amazing leader of men and women in stressful situations. Jorge has always been a low-key, humble guy and I know he doesn't like to have these kinds of things, but we can't let this go unnoticed."
Rodriguez started his career as a seasonal firefighter in 1985 and worked his way up through the department. He and his wife have lived in Menifee for almost 30 years.
"I have been honored to work with the City Council," Rodriguez said in accepting the plaque. "I've always been supported by the citizens of Menifee."
