Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select athletes based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
The doubles team of Levi Woodward and Nathan Seely won all six of their matches against Perris and Elsinore last week for the boys tennis team.
Sophomore swimmer Leilani Giles won the 200 individual medley with a school record time and the 100 butterfly with a CIF consideration qualifying time against Heritage. She also was a member of the Wildcats' winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams.
"Leilani is peaking at the right time and we are looking forward to some fast swims at league finals," said her coach, William Ackerman.
Track standout Damatria Willingham set personal records in both the 100 (12.15) and 200 meters (25.43) in the Inland Empire Championships. Her time in the 100 was good enough for a third-place finish.
Alex Sterling led the boys volleyball team with 26 digs against Perris. "Alex has been playing well all season, but he was exceptionally great this week," said his coach, Katie Bradley.
These athletes will be eligible for the April Athlete of the Month award. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com.
