Traffic in both directions on the Newport Road bridge over Interstate 215 is now flowing on the north side of the center median as workers prepare for demolition of the south portion of the bridge in the ongoing expansion project.
In preparation for the demolition of the south side of the bridge, three lanes of traffic eastbound (including a left-turn lane onto the northbound freeway) have been rerouted to the north side of the bridge. Westbound traffic over the bridge is now reduced to two lanes.
Demolition of the south portion of the bridge is scheduled to take place during nighttime hours this weekend, requiring rerouting of freeway traffic around the area via off- and on-ramps. However, because it is expected to rain this weekend, the demo might be delayed to the following weekend, according to Caltrans and City officials.
As always, motorists are urged to use caution in the area. Below is the latest construction graphic from Caltrans and the City of Menifee.
