Oak Meadows Students Unveil Leadership Program

Members of a student leadership program at Oak Meadows Elementary School used words and song to make a presentation to the Menifee Union School Board and audience Tuesday regarding their "Leader in Me" program.

Based on the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" approach popularized by author Stephen Covey, the students are developing leadership and interpersonal skills based on the following seven habits:

-- Be proactive
-- Begin with the end in mind
-- Put first things first
-- Think win-win
-- Seek first to understand, then to be understood
-- Synergize
-- Sharpen the saw

School principal Daphne Donoho and Oak Meadows teachers accompanied the students to the board meeting, held at Hans Christensen Middle School. Initial teacher training for the program has been completed and the leadership concepts are being introduced to the students.
