The County Coroner's Office today identified the victims in a fatal traffic accident on Interstate 215 Saturday as a couple from Menifee.
Philip Galvez, 80, and Nieves Nesu Martin-Galvez, 76, died in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Southbound 215 just south of the Redlands Avenue/4th Street exit in Perris. According to a report filed by the California Highway Patrol, a witness said the Chrysler Town and Country van was traveling in the No. 1 lane about 5 p.m. when it signaled for a lane change, then slowly moved all the way to the No. 4 lane and onto the shoulder. The van then went off the shoulder, struck a light pole, began to roll over and struck a second light pole.
Galvez, who was driving, and Martin-Galvez were pronounced dead at the scene.
The description sounds like he had a heart attack or stroke; it doesn't sound like careless driving.
