Melendez Meets With Residents, Honors Julia Rogoff

Melissa Melendez, who represents the local area in the 67th Assembly District, met with residents in a community forum Friday morning at Merna's Cafe in Menifee.

Melendez gave residents an update on several Assembly bills working their way through the legislative process. This included AB 1869, which would restore penalties for theft of firearms to a felony. Prop. 47 changed the penalties to a misdemeanor.

Another bill discussed was AB 2049, which would strip the High Speed Rail project of its funding and give it to current state projects focused on increasing the state's highway capacity, maintaining current highways and improving the state's freight and port infrastructure.

Melendez answered questions from the audience and presented local resident Julia Rogoff with a certificate of recognition for her efforts in running the non-profit Go Bananas, which teaches special needs youth work skills through gardening. Food grown is donated to local food pantries.
