Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select athletes based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
Two wrestlers were honored for their outstanding performances. Dallas Pellerin won a Sunbelt League individual championship, winning all his matches by pin. He was one of four champions for the Wildcats, who had nine wrestlers qualify to move on in postseason competition.
Daisha Pascual was a leader of the school's first-ever girls wrestling team. She competed in the CIF Eastern Regionals and finished in fifth place out of 24 girls. She will compete in the CIF Southern Section finals this weekend and is the school's first Regionals placer for girls wrestling.
Sophomore forward Steven Bradshaw has been a leader for the boys basketball team, which clinched a CIF playoff spot this week and finished 7-3 in league play.
"Steven has done an outstanding job for us as a rookie varsity player," said coach Michael Pfeiffer. "We are very proud of him."
Freshman forward Alyssa Moore has been one of the key players of the girls soccer team, which is one of the top teams in the Sunbelt League heading into the CIF playoffs.
"Alyssa is by far one of the most talented players I have ever coached at Paloma Valley," said her coach, Marie Dillon. "But what makes her really special is her work ethic, passion for the game, and her willingness to stay humble. Alyssa has improved so much and shows up every day to be the best player on the field and the best teammate. Not only is she doing whatever it takes on the soccer field, but she has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom."
Senior post player Chelsea Eiling was player of the game against Heritage last week, finishing with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks for the girls basketball team.
These athletes are eligible for selection as the February Athletes of the Month. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com
