Many readers have asked about the lack of progress on the Jack in the Box fast food restaurant standing vacant and a gas station barely under construction on the corner of Highway 74 and Trumble Road in the Romoland community of Menifee. Jeff Wyman, economic developer for the City of Menifee, gave us an update today.
According to Wyman, the projects have been delayed due to some issues the owners are having, including a problem with the relocation or establishment of the on-site electrical line. The developer is working with Southern California Edison on the issue, he said.
Construction began with the building of the Jack in the Box, which has displayed an "Opening Soonish" sign for months. Next door, some work has been done on what will be an Arco gas station, and Wyman says there could be more.
"On the gas station, the owner decided during construction to add a restaurant use to the site and this has delayed the project a bit," Wyman said. "This has slowed the development as these items need to be properly approved by all agencies, including the County Health Department and utility agencies, for safety reasons.
"Hopefully, construction on both sites will resume shortly and they will complete the developments soon. Unfortunately, I do not have a time frame for completion of each as it really depends on the owner/developer and their ability to resolve these issues in a timely manner. The City would like to see both businesses open as soon as possible, and we are working with each development to help them as much as we can."
