Many residents have noticed a tall water tank tower with the City of Menifee logo on it that was recently constructed at the back of the Shops at Scott center at Scott Road and Zeiders Road. Some have even questioned whether the height of the structure complies with city ordinances.
Actually, it isn't a water tank tower at all; it's a cell phone tower, erected to improve telecommunications in the area and designed to fit in with the rural environment. According to Lisa Gordon of the City of Menifee Planning Department, the 70-foot tower falls within the height limitations of the city's Wireless Communication Facilities Ordinance.
The tower, which can be seen from Interstate 215 just south of Scott Road, was approved by the Menifee Planning Commission following a public hearing on May 27. According to the minutes of that meeting, the tower was designed to serve as a "gateway landmark for those entering the city from the south."
