City of Menifee officials encourage residents to support local businesses this holiday season, including Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28.

Scheduled on the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday has been held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving since 2010. The national initiative encourages shoppers to support local businesses in their communities.

The City of Menifee receives 1 percent of the 8 percent sales tax on purchases. This is added to the city's general fund. Sales tax revenues help pay for city services, including public safety, parks and road improvements.

The Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce, along with the city, invites residents to take a "selfie" in front of their favorite local business on Small Business Saturday and post it on social media using the hashtag #shopsmallbizMenifee.
