Man's Death in Winchester Investigated as Homicide

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a man found lying on the ground in a Winchester neighborhood Sunday night as a homicide, authorities said today.

Deputies responded at 7:35 p.m. to the 26000 block of Wind Avenue, southwest of the intersection of Highway 74 and Winchester Road (Highway 79). They found a man unconscious and unresponsive. Medical attention was administered and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died from what authorities described as "injuries consistent with a physical altercation."

The investigation is ongoing and the victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
