Heritage High School wrapped up its sixth consecutive perfect Sunbelt League season and appears headed to the CIF Southern Section playoffs as the No. 1 seed after defeating Lakeside High 44-6 Friday night.
The Patriots remained unbeaten on the season at 10-0. They have never lost a league game since joining the Sunbelt League in 2010. Heritage, ranked No. 1 in the Inland Division, will open the playoffs next Friday against an opponent to be determined. Playoff matchups will be announced on Sunday.
This game was never really in doubt. Heritage built a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Quarterback Brett Virgil passed for two touchdowns and ran for another for the Patriots.
Running back Jalen Glover gained 150 yards in just a half of play. Heritage used reserve players for most of the second half, which was played with a running clock.
Two years ago, Heritage won the CIF championship. Last year, the Patriots advanced to the semifinals. Their next postseason run begins next weekend.
