Lesa Sobek, her husband and her three children have lived in Menifee since 1989. In August of 1997, Sobek was hired by Menifee Union School District to research and develop a program known as G.R.E.A.T. (Grandparents, READING, Enriching and Tutoring), a literacy program which won the Californian School Boards Association's "Golden Bell Award".
"I am pleased to endorse Lesa Sobek as a candidate for the Menifee City Council, District 3. Mrs. Sobek proved her skills in management, teamwork, and communication in the years she was employed by the Menifee Union School District as a program manager. I have never met another person with as much genuine care for the people she serves."
-- Ken Murdock, principal (RET,) Menifee Union School District
Sobek has received many distinguished awards for her community service. Listed below are a few:
-- Melissa Melendez, California State Assemblywoman, "Woman of the Year Award"
-- Rotary Club of Menifee "Service Above Self" award
-- Menifee 24/7 "Volunteer of the Month"
Sobek's oldest son joined the U.S Army. "Being a parent to one of our 'nation's finest' gave me a much greater appreciation for the young men and women and their families who selflessly sacrifice and serve our country in the military," Sobek said.
She met with City of Menifee officials and the City Veteran's Committee and established the first Menifee Military Banner Program, which honors our veterans from the past to the present.
In 2013, Mayor Scott Mann appointed Sobek to the City Planning Commission. Her decisions, based on thoughtful insight, are rarely politically expedient pronouncements, and have been firmly grounded in her incredible research skills, coupled with community and citizen input.
Sobek's repertoire cannot be completely without recognition of her depth and understanding of the mechanics of city governance. As the vice chair of the Planning Commission, Sobek has earned the respect and support of the city's administrators, city staff, and her Planning Commission colleagues. She has no fear of working as a team leader or as a team player. There are no illusions about the wide latitude of experience demonstrated in Sobek's leadership capabilities. There are no special interest drivers complicating her mission to serve her district and the city.
"I love being part of the process that ensures SMART business development for the residents of Menifee. My experience in leadership has taught me that a leader must be honest and committed. My first priority as your next councilwoman is to create a Public Safety and Traffic Commission, while adding MULTI GENERATIONAL parks for our seniors, youth and special needs. I often say, if we all do a little, a lot can be accomplished and we can make a difference for good. That is my promise to YOU!"
-- Lesa Sobek
"I will work tiressely to protect taxpayers and property owners' rights, while making decisions on SMART business development for a VIBRANT future for Menifee! As your next councilwoman on the Menifee City Council, I will work hard to ensure that we protect our past while securing our future."
