As part of its ongoing efforts to be transparent, fair and objective in its reporting, Menifee 24/7 has corrected an error made in the publication of a paid political advertisement.
Advertisements were purchased in support of two of the four candidates for the District 3 seat on the Menifee City Council, which will be determined in the Nov. 3 election. The Riverside Sheriffs' Association purchased a large display ad endorsing candidate Stu Blaze. The campaign to elect Lesa Sobek purchased a medium sized display ad in support of that candidate.
Through miscommunication in our office, the Lesa Sobek ad was incorrectly sized as a large display ad, giving the Sobek campaign equal coverage with the Blaze campaign when in fact the advertising rates paid were not the same. To rectify the situation, we are making this announcement and are refunding the Sheriffs' Association the difference between a large ad and medium ad, so both parties are paying the same rate.
The Sobek ad will remain as a large ad, the same as the Blaze ad. Representatives of the Sobek campaign offered to pay the difference. However, we have decided not to accept additional payment in this situation and instead will refund the additional amount paid in support of Blaze.
As part of their ad packages, both campaigns will continue to receive the posting of fliers in the Political Ads section of our website and on our Facebook page.
Menifee 24/7 apologizes for the error. We do not endorse any candidates and make every effort to provide fair and impartial news coverage of the campaign, while offering political advertising to all candidates. We urge our readers to attend the Menifee 24/7 Candidates Forum on Monday, Oct. 12, 7 p.m. at Bell Mountain gym. To submit questions to be asked of the candidates email menifee247info@gmail.com.
