Gift cards to Costco or to a restaurant to purchase food will also be accepted.

Non-perishables and gift cards can be donated at any time between now and Saturday at Happy's Cafe, 42031 Main Street in Temecula, or at the GNC in the Temecula Mall. Cold and hot food to be delivered the day of the event should be dropped off between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. that day in Menifee. Local businesses can schedule a pick-up of food items if needed.

Ruiz and 11 others died when a military transport plane crashed in Afghanistan. Ruiz, retired from active duty, was serving as a civilian contractor at the time of the crash. Hundreds of Menifee residents lined the streets when his body was transported to Evans-Brown Mortuary on Saturday.

According to a Facebook post by Lorelyn Ruiz, wife of Chris Ruiz, visitation and rosary will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 5-9 p.m. at Evans-Brown Mortuary, 27010 Encanto Drive in the Sun City community of Menifee. A funeral mass will be held Monday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 27931 Murrieta Road. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. that day at Riverside National Cemetery.

The funeral mass is open to the public. The reception following the funeral is limited to family, close friends and fellow military members.
