Firefighters quickly contained a barn fire at a residence in the 27000 block of Hilo Avenue in a rural neighborhood of West Menifee on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 23.
County Fire officials responded at 3:51 p.m. to reports of black smoke coming from the site, which is fronted by Linda Lee Lane, north of Tupelo Road and east of Bradley Road. Photos submitted by neighbors showed a red barn engulfed in flames. Another neighbor said "a shed" caught on fire. By the time Menifee 24/7 arrived on scene, firefighters had contained the fire and black smoke seen throughout the area had been reduced to white smoke.
The structure appeared to be severely damanged or destroyed. Containment was reported at 4:30 p.m.
The only reported injury was a firefighter who suffered heat exhaustion and was transported to a local hospital, according to fire officials.
A woman standing in front of the residence refused to speak to a reporter. There is no other information at this time.
