Dirt is being moved in the first phase of construction for The Lakes Park, a 17-acre sports park being built by developer Lennar Homes on Holland Road between Menifee Road and Southshore Drive in Menifee.

The park, located across the street from the entrance to the Hidden Meadows housing development, is situated on the back of property Lennar has developed for The Lakes Community to the north. The park will be owned and operated by Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District and will be open to the public.

"When Valley-Wide was created, the community wanted to make sure we had something for everyone," said Larry Minor, president of the Valley-Wide Board. "This park is a perfect example of that, and we are so proud to be able to bring this to the community."

The park will include three ballfields (two of them lighted), a lighted soccer field, basketball courts, playground areas, picnic areas, walking trails and restrooms. It is scheduled to be completed and ready for grand opening next summer.

"The drought-friendly design and park features reflect our community," said Matt Duarte, vice president of the Valley-Wide Board. "Menifee residents are active and family oriented, and this park will allow them to spend a fun day together. The state of the art water control system, along with using recycled water for irrigation, will ensure drinking water is being saved for our residents."

  1. My kids (& many others) don't play baseball or soccer. They skateboard. There are baseball & soccer fields all over the community & 1 skate park that is always packed way on the other side of town.

  2. I agree with the above comments. My kids play baseball and softball, however, the Audie skate park has more kids being active than all other menifee parks combined. Build more skate parks!!!

  3. How about a water play area?

  4. Definitely a skatepark is needed. Skateboarding and bmx are alot more common and popular with the youth. I live in The Lake and I know my son would love a skatepark along with all the neighborhood kids who skate everyday on our street
