Work will begin Sunday night on the Interstate 215/Newport Road interchange project, resulting in some late night on- and off-ramp closures and Newport Road lane closures throughout next week, city officials announced today.
On- and off-ramps both northbound and southbound at Newport Road will be closed between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. May 17-22. Motorists wishing to enter or exit the freeway must do do at Scott Road or McCall Boulevard.
In addition, there will be lane closures on Newport Road in each direction between Haun Road and Antelope Road between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. May 17-22. At least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Left turn movements may be prohibited intermittently to safely allow the contractors to work within the construction areas. Work to be completed during this time includes re-striping and K-rail placement.
The beginning of construction makes official the kickoff of the $37 million project, which has been in the set-up stage since an April 8 groundbreaking ceremony. Equipment is housed in a staging area on Haun Road, in front of the Haun Professional Center.
Motorists are urged to proceed with caution when driving in the area during construction times and to be aware of ramp closures. For more information about the project, call 844-440-4636 or visit the City of Menifee website here.
