The victim in a fatal hit-and-run collision Wednesday night in Homeland has been identified and authorities said today they have recovered the vehicle they believe was driven in the accident.
Jennifer Campbell, 36, of Hemet died from her injuries at Medical Valley Medical Center, according to the county Coroner's office. The CHP reported that Campbell and a 37-year-old woman were struck by a black Ford Mustang as they walked along the east side of Sultanas Road north of Highway 74 about 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday. The accident occured just east of Marion Ashley Center and Heritage High School.
The other woman was hospitalized for her injuries. No other information on her condition is available.
According to a CHP news release, the driver was heading southbound on Sultana Road when the vehicle suddenly veered left across the northbound lane of the two-lane road and struck the pedestrians. The driver did not stop and was last seen heading eastbound on Highway 74.
The CHP announced today that officers located a 2001 black Ford Mustang they believe was involved in the collision. It was located a few miles from the accident scene about 3 p.m. today. The driver is still at large, but investigators have "solid leads" in identifying the driver, according to the news release.
