A Perris man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving resulting in injuries after a car he was driving crashed into a Denny's restaurant early this morning, injuring a customer, authorities said.
Sergio Lopez, 18, was determined to be the driver of a black BMW that crashed through a wall of the Denny's at 570 E. 4th St. in Perris about 5:46 a.m., according to Sheriff's department officials. According to investigators, the vehicle was traveling east on 4th Street and was unable to negotiate the turn onto northbound Redlands Boulevard.
The vehicle left the roadway out of control and crashed into the restaurant, injuring a patron of the business who was transported via ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries. Authorities determined the building was structurally safe and remained open for business.
Lopez was subsequently arrested and booked for felony DUI resulting in injuries. Anyone having information regarding this collision is encouraged to call the Perris Police Department at 951-210-1000 or 951-776-1099.
