Paloma Valley and Heritage high school athletes turned in impressive performances Wednesday at the Sunbelt League track and field finals, held at Paloma Valley.
Paloma Valley sophomore Winter Carreno placed first in the girls 100-meter hurdles (16.53), first in the high jump (5 feet) and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.14). Christina Rodriguez won the girls 400 meters (1:01.58).
Damatra Willingham and Regina Sheffield of the Wildcats finished 2-3 in the girls 100 (12.36, 12.80) then reversed the order in finishing 2-3 in the 200 (26.80, 27.15). Junior Sophia Cadenhead placed first in the 800 (2:32.61) and second in the 1600 (5:32.57).
In the boys competition, Fred Lundy of Paloma Valley won the long jump (22-1.5) and placed second in the 100 (11.00). DayDay Lewis finished fourth in the 100 (11.33) and fourth in the 200 (23.26).
Heritage High also was well represented. Sophomore Jayden Dawson won the boys 300-meter hurdles (40.76) and took third in the 100 hurdles (17.00). Garrett Collins finished third in the 100 (11.18). Jarrett Carter finished second in the 400 (49.67) and third in the 200 (23.00).
Axel Uveakovi placed second in the shot put (47-9) and fourth in the discus (139-4).
For the Patriot girls, Briya Williams (1:03.28) and Marymel Cabali (1:03.95) finished 3-4 in the girls 400. Madison Cagel took third in the discus (98-3).
