The Menifee City Council on Wednesday honored long-time board member and current Menifee Valley Little League President John Dreher for his years of service in a proclamation at the City Council meeting.
The proclamation, presented by Mayor Scott Mann, also congratulated MVLL on its 25th anniversary this season. Dreher spoke briefly in accepting the award and specifically mentioned the Challenger Division, which was created for special needs players.
"I'm very humbled and happy to receive this," Dreher said. "I'd like to thank the youth of the community. All they want to do is play ball, and all we do is give them the opportunity.
"We're very proud of our Challenger Division as well. Right now we have about 25 players, ages 4 on up to a player age 37 who's in a wheelchair. This gives them the opportunity two hours a week to be normal kids, to get down in the dirt and play baseball."
MVLL games are played at Wheatfield Park and other locations in Menifee.
