Each week, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
Sophomore tennis player Braeden Deleon defeated all three of his opponents in team victories over Lakeside and Elsinore last week.
Michael Arreola won the 800, 1600 & 3200-meter runs in a meet against Lakeside for the boys track meet.
Girls track sophomore Winter Carreno won the frosh/soph high jump at the Beaumont Cougar Classic with a jump of 5 feet. That was her first time competing in the event. She also medaled in the 300 hurdles, taking third.
Javier Camacho (left) has played a key role for the boys volleyball team. "Javi has proven to be relentless in the back row, which helped us defeat both Tahquitz and Perris," said his coach, Katie Bradley. "His positive energy and passion to win is contagious. Against Perris, Javi served and scored four points in a row to help us bounce back and finish the match."
Jed Walz picked up a save on the pitching mound and was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored in Paloma Valley's 9-1 victory over Perris for the Wildcats baseball team in a game at Storm Stadium last week.
These athletes will be eligible for selection as Paloma Valley High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced the first week in April. Anyone wishing to order a glossy print of this article with photo may do so by emailing menifee247info@gmail.com.
