A U.S. Navy Sailor assigned to a Naval Special Warfare unit died this morning from injuries sustained in parachute jump training in Perris, according to a U.S. Navy news release.
Jason Kortz, 29, of San Diego was assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Group One, based in Coronado, Calif, according to the county Coroner's Office and Navy officials.
Riverside County Fire officials said the skydiver was reported down at 9:08 a.m. in the area of Richard Street and Highway 74, along a riverbed. The fatality was confirmed at 10:40 a.m.
