The first microbrewery in Menifee opened its doors this weekend and hundreds of guests tasted the wide variety of beers brewed on site.
The Mason Jar Brewing Company, owned by Menifee residents Robert Carter and Grace Santiago, brought in food vendors and showed off the brewing facility in its new location at 29683 New Hub Drive. The brewery and tasting room is open Thursday through Monday from noon to 9 p.m.
Eight beers, ranging in taste from "mild to wild," are brewed and served daily. Grain is delivered to the site, where it is ground, cooked with the proper liquid ingredients, fermented and stored in a large refrigerated room.
Carter and Santiago began by brewing beer in their garage, but the demand became so popular they have realized their life-long dream of owning a microbrewery. Each weekend, they will invite food vendor trucks to come on site and provide meals to go along with their selection of beers.
Beverages are served in mason jars, which Santiago said is designed to add to the "down home country" atmosphere of the tasting room.
