The developer of the Town Center Marketplace to be built on the southwest corner of Newport and Haun roads in Menifee is soliciting entries from artists or artist teams to design two iconic sculptures for the site.
One of the artistic objects (A) would be approximately 10 feet wide and 10 to feet 15 tall and would be placed on the corner of Newport and Haun at the front of the 14.4-acre retail development, according to project plans publicized by Rich Development Company. The second installation (B) would be about 5 feet wide and 5 to 10 feet tall at the back of the property, next to the wash that runs alongside the western boundary of the project.
Design drawings show that the smaller iconic art object would be placed near the entrance to a pedestrian bridge that will enable visitors to cross over the wash into a medium density residential housing area. That development will be part of the adjacent Menifee Town Center, to be developed by Regent Properties on the remainder of the 172-acre parcel bordering Newport Road.
Menifee Town Center is scheduled to include a movie theater complex and bowling alley, retail shops, residential units and a park, among other things. Guests got a brief look at the layout of the land when a giant oak tree on the property was decorated for Christmas and open to visitors.
The smaller Town Center Marketplace will include 13 retail shops and restaurants and a car wash bordering Haun Road, across from the existing Countryside Marketplace. The two artistic elements are scheduled to be completed and placed on the property by December, according to a news release from Rich Development Company.
According to the Froman Group, marketing company for Rich Development, professional artists age 18 and older may submit designs for the proposed iconic sculptures. There is no entry fee. Winning designs will be selected by a committee that will consist of one or more representatives from Rich Development, KTGY Group (the architect), the City of Menifee, Menifee Arts Council and Mt. San Jacinto College, plus a citizen of Menifee.
Materials to be used may include bronze, fiberglass, resin, stone, painted steel or other permanent medium.
Application deadline is May 30. Qualified artists may apply here.
This is a great opportunity for someone, hopefully a local resident, to express pride and interest in the community.
