A siren-screaming line of police units and emergency crews headed westbound on Newport Road this afternoon got the attention of many residents, but the end result was not a dangerous situation and no crime occurred, said a Riverside County Sheriff's Department officer.
According to Deputy Armando Munoz, the incident began at 2:46 p.m. when a police unit arrived at a residence in the 30000 block of Stage Coach Road in the Audie Murphy Ranch community to follow up on a past domestic violence report. The report was unfounded and no arrests were made, Munoz said.
However, while police were on site, construction crews nearby began using nail guns. According to Munoz, some neighbors mistook the sound for gunshots and reported shots fired to police headquarters, resulting in the huge response.
Readers posted on the Menifee 24/7 Facebook page that 10 or more police units were seen racing westbound on Newport in response to the call. Once the origin of the sounds was determined, police units and emergency crews left the scene.
