The Paloma Valley High School girls basketball team will open the CIF playoffs at home on Saturday and the boys basketball team will open on the road Friday, the CIF-Southern Section office announced today.
The Wildcats girls basketball team will play a 7 p.m. home game against Palmdale on Saturday in the 1A playoffs. The Wildcats finished second in the Sunbelt League with an 8-2 record and are 19-7 overall. Palmdale finished tied for second in the Golden League with a 10-4 record and is 14-10 overall.
Paloma Valley is led in scoring by senior guards Alize Hancock (15.4 ppg, right) and Regina Sheffield (14.0 ppg). The Wildcats won four consecutive games to finish out the regular season, including a 42-26 win over Temescal Canyon on Feb. 10.
The Wildcats boys basketball team earned a berth in the 1A playoffs with a 10-16 overall record, even though they finished next to last in the Sunbelt League with a 4-6 mark. Paloma Valley will play a 7 p.m. game Friday at Hacienda League champion Walnut, which is 23-5 overall and was 10-0 in league play.
Paloma Valley is led in the scoring department by junior guard Cameron Whatley (left), who averages 12.8 points per game.
