Menifee City Council member Wallace Edgerton said tonight he is being evaluated by physicians for a second lung transplant and believes it is a strong possibility.
Edgerton, 81, has not been able to attend recent council meetings because of health issues related to the rejection of his previous lung transplant, which took place in May 2011. He has been receiving treatments at a clinic in San Diego and also consults with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
"When I had my first lung transplant, I was Mayor of Menifee," recalled Edgerton (at right in photo above with Mayor Scott Man). "I only missed one city council meeting and was back to work. This time I might miss two, but I will definitely be back working."
While doctors evaluate Edgerton's health status, he continues to receive treatments in San Diego to strengthen his body's ability to fight infection of the lung. He was prepared to participate in Wednesday night's council meeting by telephone from his home, but a last-minute treatment scheduled in San Diego prevented that.
