Car Takes Out Light Pole in Crash; No Major Injuries

Two vehicles were seriously damaged and one car sheared off a light pole, but somehow there were no apparent major injuries in a collision tonight at the intersection of Menifee Road and Holland Road.

The accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. at the four-way stop. According to the driver of a 2010 Mercury Mariner SUV, she was heading eastbound on Holland Road and had just pulled into the intersection when she saw a late model Jaguar heading northbound on Menifee Road at a high rate of speed. She said the Jaguar ran the stop sign and although she slammed on the brakes, she couldn't avoid the collision.

After the impact, the Jaguar went over the curb at the northeast corner of the intersection and struck a light pole, bringing it down on top of the car. The windshield shattered on the driver's side and the airbag deployed, but the driver walked away unhurt.

The driver, a male, was in the car with his son. He said he thought he stopped at the sign but "it all happened so fast."

The female driver of the SUV was driven by friends to Loma Linda University Medical Center in Murrieta, complaining of pain in her legs and neck. She had no passengers in the car with her.

Northbound traffic on Menifee Road was diverted onto Holland Road while police waited for tow trucks and for crews to clean up the debris.
