News release from the City of Menifee:
MENIFEE -- The City of Menifee will host a workshop to provide residents information on land use and business registration tonight at 6 p.m. at Menifee City Hall, 29714 Haun Road. The public is invited to attend and participate.
City staff members will present recommendations to the City Council about how to address land use activities or businesses that were in existence before Menifee incorporated and do not conform to current city regulations. The City Council will consider a program that will allow such land use activities or businesses to continue operation while moving toward full compliance with city standards and requirements.
"When Menifee incorporated in 2008, there were a number of rural businesses and land use activities that did not confirm to city regulations," said City Manager Rob Johnson. "We value these businesses and what they bring to our community. Our goal is to provide a mutually agreeable solution that will bring these businesses to compliance with city codes and regulations in an acceptable time frame."
Ultimately, the program proposes to offer land use activities and businesses that fall into this category the opportunity to secure land use and business registration, which then allows them to apply for a Menifee business license. The license would let them operate legally within Menifee as they progress toward full compliance with applicable city rules, regulations and ordinances.
According to Interim Community Development Director Charles LeClaire, businesses who secure the registation within a year of the ordinance passing would have 10 years to progress to full compliance.
The proposed cost to register an application for a business license under this program is $350, along with an annual property inspection fee of $150.
