Heritage High School Athletes of the Week: Jan. 21

Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Heritage High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Heritage High School Athletes of the Week:

Senior guard Walter Meinzer is one of the top players on the Patriots' boys basketball team. His leadership is valuable to coach Andrew Ellis as Heritage competes in the tough Sunbelt League.

Senior Myasia Gray is co-captain of the girls basketball team. She leads the team in scoring with an average of 17.8 points per game.

Alyssa Newsom, just a freshman, is one of the top players for the girls soccer team. A veteran of 10 years soccer in youth leagues, she excels as goalkeeper for the Patriots.

These athletes will be eligible for selection as Heritage High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced in early February.
