Story updated with additional information and correction that the meeting is tonight at 7 p.m.:
Tonight's Menifee Planning Commission agenda includes public hearings regarding a revised plot plan for the Menifee Lakes Plaza and new headquarters for the Menifee Union School District. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 29714 Haun Road.
Menifee Lakes Plaza is a commercial center planned for the lot located between Interstate 215 and Antelope Road, north of Newport Road. The project, originally approved by the Planning Commission in 2009, has undergone several revisions. Current plans call for the construction of a hotel, LA Fitness center, gas station and car wash, and small retail businesses.
The Commission will decide whether to approve the revised plan and send it to the City Council.
Also on the agenda is a proposed plot plan for the Menifee Education Center -- new headquarters for the Menifee Union School District, to be built in the middle of the Newport Hub near City Hall at the far north end of Haun Road.
Members of the public are invited to attend and give their comments during the public hearings. Residents may also send comments to Planning Manager Lisa Gordan at lgordon@cityofmenifee.us.
In addition, two new Planning Commissioners will be sworn in tonight.
Menifee resident Greg Folsom has been appointed to the Planning Commission by new City Council member Matt Liesemeyer. Folsom will replace Mark Matelko, the previous appointee of council member Tom Fuhrman, who was defeated in the November City Council elections.
Because Liesemeyer vacated his seat on the Planning Commission to join the City Council, council member John Denver was required to name a replacement on the commission for Liesemeyer, whom he appointed previously. Denver's new appointee to the commission is attorney Robert Karwin.
After Folsom and Karwin are sworn in, council members will select an interim chair to conduct the meeting until a permanent chair is named. Liesemeyer was previously chair of the Planning Commission.
Other Planning Commissioners are Lesa Sobek, Earl Phillips and Chris Thomas.

There exists a critical need for the new district headquarters for the Menifee USD. The current district office is located in portable buildings which have long passed their lifespan and are technically condemned, unable to be used for classrooms. As a growing district and with unification in the future, there is a need for a district office that has adequate parking and space for the different departments.
ReplyDeleteThe Menifee Lakes Plaza location was the home of endangered burrowing owls before they started construction. These owls are protected by the Riverside County Multi Species Agreement. All for a hotel and the third gas station/car wash within 2 miles. Someone needs to be held accountable for this.
