Two members of the Menifee City Council and the city manager are in Sacramento today for training as part of the California League of Cities' new mayor and new city council member academy.
The event is held after elections to provide orientation and training at the state capitol for newly elected officials. Council member Matt Liesemeyer, newly elected in November, is attending for the first time. Mayor pro tem John Denver, re-elected last fall, has attended previously.
City Manager Rob Johnson is in Sacramento to attend committee meetings with the League of Cities. Mayor Scott Mann did not make the trip because of private business commitments.
Menifee's representatives visited the floor of the state Senate and Assembly and met with Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore.
"After a long week in Sacramento, it’s nice to have representatives from home visit my office and the State Capitol so we can discuss issues critical to the lives of our constituents," Melendez said in a news release.
Melissa Melendez represents the 67th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar and a portion of Hemet. It also includes the Riverside County unincorporated areas of Lake Mathews, Good Hope, Nuevo, and Winchester.
