Sheriff Deputies from Lake Elsinore Police Department responded to a report of a single vehicle accident, near the intersection of Railroad Canyon Road and Church Street.
Last night, at approximately 7:40 p.m., a silver Ford pick-up truck struck a power pole along the roadway edge. The power pole fell, blocking traffic in both directions and damaged a second power pole. The downed power lines snapped and draped across the vehicle, according to the police report.
The unidentified female driver from Lake Elsinore, was able to exit the vehicle without injury. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision and the cause of the accident is still under investigation. No other vehicles or people were involved in the collision.
Surrounding neighborhoods suffered power outages throughout the night.
Crews from Southern California Edison and the fire department responded to the scene to secure the power line hazard, while Lake Elsinore Police blocked traffic. At 10:25 p.m., the east bound lanes of Railroad Canyon were re-opened to traffic, but SCE personnel estimated the west bound lanes of Railroad Canyon Road would be closed for up to eight more hours while repairs to the lines and poles are made.
A similar collision took place near this same spot, three weeks ago, but alcohol was believed to have been involved with that accident.
Anyone with information on the collision is encouraged to call the Lake Elsinore Police Department Traffic Team at 951-245-3311.
