Lanes will be Closed Next Two Nights on Newport Road

Lanes on Newport Road will be closed for work on gas pipes.

Tonight and tomorrow night, beginning at 7 p.m. Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) crews will be working on Newport Road, to complete utility relocation, in anticipation of the forecasted rain storm that is projected to hit Menifee Thursday and Friday.

Crews will be finalizing the installation and "odorizing" of newly installed gas pipes to accommodate the future Interstate 215/Newport Road Interchange Project.

Work on Newport Road will take place between Antelope and Haun roads. Two of the three westbound and eastbound lanes on Newport Road are expected to be closed as late as 5 a.m. the following morning. Off-ramps will not be affected.

SoCalGas crews will be on site to manage the work and will be using equipment to control the gas odorizor. It will be possible that the scent of gas could be detected by the local community. SoCalGas assures that the process is safe and does not present a hazard.
