Dog Reunited with Owner Despite Bad Dye Job

A dog that was believed to have been taken from an owner's yard ended up at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus - with its fur dyed in attempt to hide the dog's true coat color.

Owner Heather Lowry has been reunited with Coco, her 8-month-old pit bull that she originally adopted from San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus in late November. Coco, originally a reddish-brown color with white markings, escaped her new confines and ended up back at the animal shelter as a stray impound.

When taken back into the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, staff noted that the dog's fur was badly dyed black. They checked her for a microchip and were able to contact Lowry to let her know that Coco was safe with them.

All dogs adopted out of the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus are automatically micro-chipped before they are allowed to be adopted out. Thanks to this, Lowry was reunited with her pit bull.
