Menifee's Economic Development Department reported a continued sales tax revenue increase for the second quarter of 2014.
Sales tax revenues in the months of April, May, and June are up nine percent compared to the same time period from last year. Menifee's sales tax revenue increase is higher than Riverside County's which was at seven percent and nearly double Southern California's tax revenue increase which was at five percent.
Sales of consumer goods led the increase in sales tax revenue, followed by fuel sales. Restaurants came in third for the first time ever, beating out construction and building by four percent.
"Menifee has worked hard to bring more retail and restaurant options to town and we are starting to see the economic payoff," said Economic Development Director Jeff Wyman. "Our year-over-year sales tax revenues continue to increase and a fact that they are increasing at a faster rate than the county, state, and some surrounding communities, is a testament to our efforts."
Sales tax revenues are added to the city's general fund and go into helping city services such as public safety, parks and community services, and some road improvements.
