News release from the City of Menifee:
MENIFEE – On Thursday, crews will be working to "odorize" gas pipes as part of the Interstate 215/Newport Road Interchange Utility Relocation project.
Work is being done on Newport Road about 200 feet east of Haun Road, near the Yellow Basket restaurant. Two of the three westbound lanes on Newport Road will be closed beginning at
7 p.m. Thursday evening to accommodate the work. The lanes are expected to be open Friday morning by 5 a.m. The Interstate 215 on and off-ramps will not be affected.
Southern California Gas Co. crews will be working to odorize the new gas pipes.
"This is a routine process when installing new steel gas pipes and our crews will be on site to manage the work on the new pipes using equipment to control the gas odorizor," said SoCalGas Public Affairs Manager Randon Lane. "There is a slight chance some in the community could smell the odorant. We want to assure the public that this process is safe and does not present any hazard."
On Saturday, SoCalGas will continue working on gas pipes along Newport Road between Antelope and Haun roads. Two westbound lanes on Newport Road will be closed from 7 p.m. Saturday evening through 5 a.m. Sunday to accommodate the work.
For information about the Interstate 215/Newport Road project, check the city’s website under Construction Update or contact the Construction Hotline at 844-440-INFO (4636).
