Quarterback Brett Virgil will lead Heritage High against Rim of the World in tonight's playoff opener. |
Menifee's high school football teams begin the "second season" tonight when they open the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
Undefeated Heritage High will be at home for a 7 p.m. game against Rim of the World of Lake Arrowhead. The Patriots take a 10-0 record this season and 20-game winning streak over two seasons into their Inland Division playoff opener. Last week, Heritage wrapped up another perfect Sunbelt League season with a 56-7 win at Lakeside.
Rim of the World has the tough task of a long road trip to face the division's second seeded team. The Fighting Scots finished third in the San Andreas League and are 5-5 overall.
Meanwhile, Paloma Valley will put its 6-4 record on the line in a challenging road game at Rancho Verde, last year's Central Division finalist. The Wildcats beat Temescal Canyon 42-35 last week to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Rancho Verde, host team for the 7 p.m. game, is 8-2 this season.
Heritage and Paloma Valley are in opposite brackets in the Inland Division, so they could meet only in the CIF finals.
Running back Khayrii Joyner and the Paloma Valley Wildcats will play at Rancho Verde tonight. |
