Each week of the school year, Menifee 24/7 honors top student-athletes at Paloma Valley High School. The coach of each varsity sport is allowed to select one athlete based on the previous week's performances or on potential shown by the athlete. Here are this week's Paloma Valley High School Athletes of the Week:
Representing the football team is middle linebacker Robert Solis. According to coach Bert Esposito, "He made exceptional plays all night (in a win over Perris Oct. 24). He had a pick 6, stuffed a big third down play with a vicious tackle and also made the heads-up play of the year as he jumped in the air out of bounds and threw the ball back in to play when we caused a fumble that was going out of bounds. He has been playing outstanding all year."
The Athlete of the Week in girls volleyball is senior Hannah Schaffer. She has spent four years on the varsity squad. She had 6 kills in a recent match against Elsinore and has become the team's top server, said her coach, Stephen Kaas.
Freshman Conner Dmytriw is a previous Athlete of the Week honoree. He won his invitational race at Bell Gardens on Oct. 18 with a time of 16:02. It was his second individual win in a Freshman Invitational race this season.
These athletes will be eligible for selection as Paloma Valley High School's Athletes of the Month, which will be announced next week.
