A letter to the community from Matt Liesemeyer, candidate for City Council in District 2:
I moved to Menifee 13 years ago to start my family and take advantage of everything this wonderful community has to offer. As a small Menifee business owner with a background in engineering and construction, I have been intimately involved with our city, having been appointed to the Menifee Planning Commission in 2009 and serving as chairman three times.
Still in this leadership position, I’ve led the Commission in the completion of our first ever General Plan, which will guide our great city into the future. I believe that:
-- Adding quality commercial and high quality business parks will increase our tax base.
With all the local hospitals around our city, Menifee is strategically located to secure Bio-tech and Laboratory related industries. This will bring more high quality jobs to Menifee and boost our tax base exponentially.
To implement this, I encourage city partnerships with our community college and its new programs. An educated local workforce attracts professional businesses to a community. Today, professionals in Menifee must commute to be employed. My commitment to you is that I will continue to advocate and work hard to attract and retain professional jobs for our residents right here in Menifee!
-- Building infrastructure will improve traffic circulation.
Too many streets and intersections are clogged with traffic! My record on the Planning Commission shows that I am a proponent of securing our infrastructure needs first so that we can eliminate congestion.
-- Increasing our level of public safety will reduce crime.
It worries me deeply that at any given time, there are limited officers on duty. One emergency scenario could send every officer in town to that location, leaving the rest of our 48-plus square mile city without patrols. We must generate more money in our city so we can increase our officer-resident ratio.
-- Protecting property owner rights is a duty of local government.
Thousands moved to Menifee for the same reason I did -- to start a family. Many others moved here for its spacious views and open space, where you can enjoy horseback riding and many outdoor activities. Owners of larger lots enjoy more freedoms and take pride in being self sufficient. I am dedicated to preservation of those rights.
-- Adding spacious parks will improve quality of life throughout our community.
As a parent of a 7-year-old, I know all too well how limited park space is. Ball fields are filled, and parents are driving to neighboring cities for their events. I will work hard to create more opportunities for our youth. I truly believe that a measure of a great city is the quality of its parks.
My record on the Menifee Planning Commission confirms these beliefs and my history reflects longevity and success as a resident, business owner and leader. I pledge to continue working hard for the people to make Menifee the best city to live in, but I need your help to do it. Please vote for me on Nov. 4!
