An open letter from Sue Kristjansson, candidate for Menifee City Council in District 2:
My wonderful family and I have lived in Menifee since 2002. Menifee was our number one choice back then because of the rural feel, yet it had a close proximity to dense shopping districts like Temecula and Riverside.
On occasion, you may hear disagreements about rural vs non-rural in Menifee. Are there people who would like to be rid of the rural communities here? Perhaps, but I will tell you emphatically, I am not one of them. I believe that the rural areas of our city bring the unique charm that we possess. Many cities do not enjoy the mix of lifestyles that we offer here and anyone who would want to change that needs to think again!
Like many of you, I lived through our small town of Menifee choosing the structured route of Cityhood and watched as Menifee grew because of that incorporation. Nobody could have predicted how fast little Menifee would grow from that small town into what is now -- a unique and charming city that’s home to horse ranches and farms while also boasting retail giants like Best Buy, Target, Five Guys, Lowes, In-N-Out, and more.
Even so, I stand for all of Menifee’s residents and all sides of the fence. I will not put tax revenue before the voices of our families.
While it’s understandable that none of us can stop economic growth, nor should we, there’s no reason this growth can’t be managed in a way that better incorporates the views of everyone. We can all agree that Menifee needs amenities and jobs. We need jobs that will keep our families together rather than having parents commuting great distances, resulting in less family time. We owe it to these homeowners and their children to make Menifee a place where they can enjoy spending their time.
I wish there had been a Boys & Girls Club when I was raising my son here in Menifee, but there wasn’t. For a decade, I’ve wanted to put in place a safe, fun, and enriching place for the kids of our community. Finally this year, 11 amazing community minded leaders and myself, acting as the Chairman, have accomplished this goal!
Menifee now has a full-service Boys & Girls Club with almost 500 members already! I can’t express to you how much it melts my heart to see local kids thriving at this club. And I love to hear from their parents, who are so relieved to have somewhere in Menifee for their kids to have a positive experience. This is proof I have the ability to recognize when our Menifee families are in need and, more importantly, I have the common sense and skill necessary to fill that need.
I want to serve the District 2 residents -- all of the District 2 residents. My community work as Chairman of the Menifee Valley Boys & Girls Club and as the Chairman of the Menifee United Way keeps my perspective balanced and my focus on local families. I teach leadership at Mt. San Jacinto College and this gives me a direct connection to Menifee’s young adults. At my day job I work as a strategy manager, and this strengthens my skills in planning for the future. I have the skill set to get this job done.
Please vote Sue Kristjansson for Menifee City Council District 2!
