An open letter to the community from City Council member John Denver, candidate for re-election in District 4:

I am pleased to have been chosen as a City Councilman by the citizens of Menifee since the start of the City in 2008. Since then, Menifee has become the second fastest-growing city in Riverside County, and the sixth fastest-growing City in southern California. And we will grow even more with a strong, wise vision of the future.

Our General Plan sets out the City’s vision, and I am proud of it. It was built on input from residents through the Blue Ribbon Committee and the Planning Commission over five years. Menifee received the Inland Empire American Planning Award for our General Plan. We intend to keep a small town feel with balanced growth, and to improve the streets and overpasses.

New businesses and more jobs come along with the growth to satisfy the needs of the residents. We need more sports parks, playgrounds and trails to serve the younger residents. These will come as the General Plan develops. Transportation improvements will enable senior residents to move freely throughout the community.

Additionally, communication between City Hall and the residents is improved through our website and the Menifee Matters publication, which is delivered to every home in Menifee. I am working on getting a City television channel, Channel 3.

I am proud of our accomplishments: Newport Road widening that is near completion; Newport Road overcrossing, which is underway; Scott Road overcrossing, to be initiated soon; and generation of funds to finance Holland Road overpass. Personally, I influenced the placement of the McCall Blvd. overcrossing into the I-215 improvement map.

The most exciting thing I took part in is the Romoland Flood Control Project! You can see parts of Line A being built under I-215 south of Ethanac, and west of Winco. The Project will carry the water from the hills east of Romoland to the west of Perris. It opens up development along Highway 74 like never before.

By the way, I am proud that my opponent and I are running a clean race. I heartily disapprove of negative publicity against any candidate.

Please vote for John Denver, the District 4 candidate with the experience that has grown as Menifee has grown.
