The play, written in 1936, follows the story of Terry Randall and a boarding house full of aspiring actresses that she lives with.
"'Stage Door" was a pretty famous play back in the 1930's, but it's big attraction to a high school director is that there are a lot of female parts," said teacher Greg Newman. "It's 20 girls and 10 men. Since the days of Shakespeare, 99% of all the plays written are written for 20 guys and 10 girls or 20 guys and 4 girls. This let's my actresses have a chance to perform."
The students were allowed to create their own costumes from the guidelines that Newman asked them to follow.
"We're kind of extremely low budget," Newman added. "We're trying to make money for our musical."
The set was designed by Newman, but he had help from his students to perfect the look. In this play, Heritage has built a two story set, with a bedroom on the top floor and living room setting on the first floor.
When asked about future productions for this school year, Newman said, "We have 2 other productions and a talent show will be done before the season is over. Neither of those have been chosen, but they will be chosen within 72 hours of this play closing."
Future plays in consideration will include a play by Tom Stoppard and "Blite Spirit" by Noel Coward, but the musical selection is still undecided.
"The Stage Door" opens tomorrow on Oct. 24 and runs through Oct. 26. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee will begin at 3 p.m. Ticket costs will be $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens.
