The I-215/Newport Rd. Interchange utility relocation and pre-construction is in the process, to prepare for the Interstate 215/Newport Road Interchange Improvement Project. The project is scheduled to begin in Spring of 2015.
Work is being done on Newport Rd. between Antelope Rd. and Haun Rd.
The majority of the work will occur Sunday through Thursday nights, each week, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Some daytime work may be done on an as needed basis.
Newport Rd. will remain open during the utility relocation project. The amount of lanes may be reduced and turning lanes and on ramp lanes may be closed during off-peak hours. Utility relocation is expected to continue through 2015, taking a short break during the holiday season.
Residents with concerns for traffic, can check the city's Construction Update tab on their website for the latest news on the project. The city will also post updates on their Facebook and Twitter feeds as well. The Construction Hotline can be called at 1-844-440-INFO (4636) for updates via phone.
"This is the start of a long, complex project that will provide easier freeway access, more lanes on the overpass and greatly improve traffic flow on Newport Road," said City Manager Rob Johnson. "We're asking the community to be patient while we're under construction, to stay informed of the road conditions and closures and to use alternate routes as much as possible."
