An open letter from Matt Liesemeyer, candidate for Menifee City Council in District 2:
Moving to Menifee in 2001 to start my family and build a future, I appreciated then what I appreciate now ... This wonderful community has so much to offer.
As a small business owner in Menifee, I have a background in engineering and construction. I have been intimately involved with our City by being appointed to the Menifee Planning Commission in 2009, serving as Chairman three times. Still in this leadership position, I have led the Commission in the completion of our “first ever” General Plan, that guides our great City into the future. I believe:
Transparency is crucial to the residents of District 2. With the varied desires of the rural areas and those of the families that live in the more populated areas near our core, versatility is needed to strike balance in the community. That is why I intend to hold regular town hall meetings where residents can voice their concerns. With my adaptable background, I will always be accountable to you, the resident and taxpayer!
Building infrastructure will improve traffic circulation. I have walked a lot of neighborhoods and spent time talking with the people. Traffic management is a huge concern. Our roads can’t handle the increase in development and we need to make a change. My record on the Planning Commission shows that I’m a proponent of securing our infrastructure needs first, so we can eliminate congestion.
Increasing our level of public safety will reduce crime. I’m deeply concerned that, at any given time, there are limited officers on duty. One emergency could allocate every officer in town, leaving our 48+ square mile city without patrols. We must work to generate more money in our city, so we can increase our officer-resident ratio! Providing public safety is a duty of your representation.
We must keep that small town feel. Our general plan draws special attention to the rural character of the City, which is a historical element and founding component of the General Plan, where you can enjoy fabulous horseback riding as well as a multitude of outdoor activities. I will continue to work in favor of our City’s heritage and preserve its rural character.
To be successful, smart economic growth is a must for our city. I believe that we must walk a fine line of growth against over-population. Residents desire good paying jobs to keep them from commuting. Bringing in those jobs will help to build a stronger tax base so we can fund all of our needs, such as roads, police and fire. That will be my focus.
My record on the Menifee Planning Commission confirms these beliefs. My history reflects longevity and success as a resident, business owner and proven leader. These are only a few of my goals as your councilman. I will work hard for the residents of Menifee as I insist it is the best city in which to live. I need your help to do it. Please vote for me on Nov. 4!
