The 215 and Newport Road Interchange Project is progressing forward.
In October, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors authorized contractor bidding to begin on the $35 million project. They will be accepting bids until Dec. 3.
Construction can begin in early 2015, after the current Utility Relocation project is completed. The interchange project is expected to be completed by mid to late 2016.
The interchange project will cover a half-mile stretch of Newport Road from Antelope Road to Haun Road. Once it is completed, the freeway overpass will have six lanes compared to the current four. It will also re-configure existing on and off-ramps to create a "clover leaf" style interchange, which will eliminate the current left-hand turn signals for freeway entry.
"This long awaited project will greatly improve traffic flow and freeway access on Newport Road, Menifee's main east/west corridor," said City Manager Rob Johnson. "We are preparing for construction to start on this exciting project and will be reminding motorists to be patient and to use the detours posted."
The interchange project is one of seven that make up Menifee's $100 million Capital Improvement Program called Menifee Moving.
