One person died in a traffic accident on the southbound I-15 Freeway just north of Diamond Drive in Lake Elsinore Monday night.
Authorities began to receive calls around 7:50 p.m. of a large object blocking the number 2 and 3 lanes. The object, a large portable generator, was struck by two other vehicles before the driver of a red Ford F-150 came across it. The driver steered the truck left, trying to avoid the generator, but still hit it, veering sharply to the right afterwards, running off the road and overturning several times down a dirt embankment.
The driver, whose identity hasn't been revealed, died at the scene of the accident. Authorities believe the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, according to a CHP report.
Authorities took the Ford F-150 in for evidence along with pieces of the generator and packing materials found at the scene.
The collision is now under investigation.
